Saakashvili: Russia fought against Ukraine, not Georgia
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili confirmed in interview on Ukrainian TV that ‘Georgia has some Ukrainian-made weapons.’
“Ukraine can be involved here in process [and mediate the reconciliation between Georgia and Russia], but the point is that they tot up Georgia and Ukraine. They say: ‘We fought against Georgia’, but they did fight against Ukraine as it turned out, we had had Ukrainian-made weapons. Not too much, besides. And anyway, I think that was a soviet weapon,” some media outlets quote Georgia’s President Saakashvili.
Meanwhile, Director of General Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff of Russian Armed Forces, General Alexander Shlyahturov, said on November 5, that NATO states, Israel, and Ukraine still provide Georgia with weapon as they did before five-day war in August 2008. Ukraine, in particular, provides Georgia with tanks and air defenses, says Shlyahturov.
