By dint of Iran, there were voiced some headnotes, says expert
Looking for a place in the multi-polar world, Turkey chose the ideology of neo-Ottomanism, said at today’s press conference Director of the Noravank Science and Educational Foundation, Gagik Haroutyunian.
Following this ideology and making use of its geo-political situation and resources, Turkey is trying to influence all the neighboring countries through different proposals and initiatives, according to analyst.
Actually, for example, Turkey’s government has proposed to found a Platform of Security and Peace in the Caucasus, especially after Russia-Georgia war in August 2008.
“It’s not all in a sudden that this initiative went with the August’s war,” said Gagik Haroutyunian. He noted that standing from a new situation, Turkey is trying to improve not only its position, but also position of Azerbaijan. In these terms, in Haroutyunian’s opinion, Turkey has to establish new relations with Armenia, despite it is an indirect party of the Karabakh talks.
“Azerbaijan has a chief objective to solve its tactical issues and wants to solve the Karabakh conflict in accordance with its own views, while Turkey has long-term strategic goals which will help to solve the issue in its own favor in the future.”
Armenian government perfectly recognizes these Turkey’s goals and tactics, and takes the appropriate steps. Former Armenian president Robert Kocharian’s visit to Iran is one of these steps, according to the expert.
“Actually, by dint of Iran, there were voiced some headnotes which showed that Armenia has alternative ways.”
Another important development is Armenian National Court’s decision on Armenia-Turkey protocols. The decision made it clear that the protocols may come into force only with conforming to Armenia’s Constitution and law.
It is not true that the process of reconciliation is at a deadlock, as the complications were expected from the very beginning of the process of normalisation, said the expert. “In addition to Armenia and Turkey’s wishes, there is the international communities’ opinion, which points out that the issue must be solved.”
Gagik Haroutyunian pointed that the international communities link process of Armenia-Turkey reconciliation with conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq and some other issues. Taking all this into account, process of normalisation of relations between Armenia and Turkey will have its logical conclusion, according to the expert.
