Ban Ki-moon says promises quake-hit Chile $10 million
The UN will contribute $10 million from its Central Emergency Response Fund to help quake-hit Chile to rebuild its damaged areas, according to announcement by UN chief Ban Ki-moon.
"I am very moved to see such strong courage and resilience of the Chilean people," Ban said upon arrival in the country yesterday.
Before, some countries and organisations, including the EU, Australia, Japan, and China confirmed would direct nearly $11 million to help Chile, where a massive 8.8-magnitude quake killed more than 800 people.
