S. Lavrov: Russian base functions in Armenia remain unchanged
The interstate protocol on extension of Russian military base deployment term in Armenia does not change base functions, number of its servicemen, neither it changes the amount of armament in the base, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in his interview to Azerbaijani media.
The military base deployment term is extended by 49 years according to the protocol, “nothing else changes,” the Minister said.
Lavrov stressed that Russian military base's main goal is to protect Russia’s interests.
“Stability in the South Caucasus and Caspian region is also among Russia’s interests,” Foreign Minister said in his remarks.
