Lavrov: Sides of conflict should come to agreement in NKR issue
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov commented upon the prospects of Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement and Russia’s role in that process in his interview to Azerbaijani media.
In response to correspondents’ observation that no noticeable progress is observed in the Nagorno Karabakh issue Lavrov said that nevertheless, there is progress.
“We work confidentially, therefore the results are not noticeable. However, I must say that there are results even if they are not noticeable for the public,” Foreign Minister said.
Lavrov mentioned Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s role over the past two years in the process of searching for agreements.
“Six meetings of Russian, Azerbaijani and Armenian Presidents took place over the past two years. Two meetings took place this year – in Sochi and Saint Petersburg. The Presidents have not yet agreed on all basic principles, but there is already consent on most issues,” Lavrov said.
According to the Minister, “it is the conflict sides that should come to an agreement on the conflict settlement.”
