Ex Assistant Secretary of State Kramer heads Freedom House
The Freedom House announced on August 31 that David J. Kramer, former American diplomat, has been chosen to serve as the organization's new executive director.
Kramer has had a distinguished career both in government and in the nongovernmental sector. He served as Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor from March 2008 to January 2009. He previously served for three years as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, focusing on Russia, Moldova, Belarus and Ukraine, in addition to regional non-proliferation issues. His experience in the nongovernmental sector includes his current position as a Senior Transatlantic Fellow at the German Marshall Fund of the United States, as well as a five-year tenure at the Carnegie Endowment, where he was associate director of the Russian and Eurasian Program.
David Kramer has been harshly criticizing President Barack Obama’s policy towards Russia describing that as “ignoring democracy and human rights.”
