Turkey takes over a month-term UN Security Council presidency
Turkey is taking over a UN Security Council presidency, which starts on September 1 and will last for a month-long term, Rosbalt reported. The credentials and office were handed over from Russia, the UNSC Permanent Member.
Turkey joined the U.N. Security Council as a non-permanent member in 2009 for a two-year term, and has already once headed the organisation.
Turkey’s presidency jumps together with start of the annual 65th UN General Assembly, which will be held from September 20 to 22 at the headquarter in New York.
In mid-September, a delegation of senior Turkish officials with President Abdullah Gul and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu on the head will travel to New York to held bilateral meetings and multilateral talks within the framework of the UN General Assembly.
