One killed, one wounded in mosque shooting in Azerbaijan

A mosque in Gumbashy village of southern region of Azerbaijan was attacked late Thursday, Russian information agencies reported citing local media. 

The police officials of Lyankaran region of Azerbaijan told media that late Thursday the mosque in Gumbashy was attacked by armed gunmen who entered the region from neighboring Massalin region by cars. At nearly 12:15 am they started firing at local residents who gathered near the mosque. One man was killed in the shooting, another one was injured and rushed to the hospital.

“Wounded in the shooting resident of Gumbashy village, Elshad Alimamed oglu Guseinov, born in 1963, died. Another villager, Ramin Baloglan ogly Agamaliev, born in 1985, with a bullet wound in his chest was taken to Central Lyankaran hospital, and is under treat in the intensive care department,” a policeman told media.

Local officials have already opened an investigation into the attack. A group of local policemen has been established to carry out the probe.
