Japan’s cabinet imposes new sanctions against Iran

On Friday, Japan’s cabinet approved to impose new sanctions on Iran over its nuclear programme. The measures go beyond those which were imposed by the UN Security Council and ban transactions with some Iranian banks, and also target energy-related investments.

Japan's new sanctions include a freeze on the assets of 88 companies and 24 individuals linked to the country's nuclear programme. The new package of sanctions also bars Japanese financial institutions from buying bonds issued by Iranian central bank.
