Eight people killed in explosion in Afghanistan

At least eight civilians, including two children, have been killed in two bomb attacks in Afghanistan, officials say, the BBC reports.

In northern Balkh Province a suicide bomber killed three civilians when he detonated explosives on a bicycle in the main market of the town of Chahar Bolak, police said.

Local reports said he was apparently targeting a police patrol.
