Maxim Hakobyan plays key role in Syunik mayoral elections
Non-partisan Gagik Atajanyan announced his candidacy for Kapan mayor Wednesday. He was the first mayor of Kapan and held office for two terms. Current mayor, ARF member Arthur Atayan and RPA’s candidate Ashot Hayrapetyan also run for Kapan mayor, Hraparak reports.
“Maxim Hakobyan, General Director of Copper Molybdenum Combine, plays a key role in Syunik mayoral elections. During the previous elections, he backed current mayor of Kapan, but it is rumored that Hakobyan is not going to back Atayan this time.
There were two mayoral candidates in Meghri as of August 8: current mayor, RPA’s candidate Sergey Hayrapetyan and self-nominated candidate, non-partisan businessman Arshavir Hovhannisyan,” the paper writes.
“One of the key achievements of the project implemented with UNDP/GEF support is the inclusion and support of extra-curricular environmental education as a strategic approach. This was a direct result of the series of roundtables jointly organized with EEN members and policymakers,” adds Sahakyan.
