Heritage party condemns illegal actions of police
Around 10:30 am today, Armenian policemen took illegal actions against a group of citizens, who arrived from Armenian regions and were going to Liberty Square to attend the inauguration of New Armenia, and organized a scuffle, according to a statement issued by the headquarters of ex-presidential candidate, Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian.
“In particular, at the crossroads of Baghramian Avenue and Demirchian Street, the policemen used force, pushed citizens and lifted hand against them, including against Heritage party deputy chairman Armen Martirosian’s mother and his child who accompanied the procession, which had proceeded peacefully, without incident. Besides, at the crossroads of Demirchian and Proshian Streets the police blocked the way of citizens led by Raffi Hovannisian who were marching towards Baghramian Avenue. There were also troops of the Defense Ministry in the area,” the statement reads.
Heritage Party strongly condemns these illegal actions of police and their inadequate and servile behavior.
“We demand that the creation of artificial tension around the inauguration of New Armenia in Liberty Square should be stopped. The responsibility for the consequences will lie with the police and their political mastermind – the de facto incumbent president,” the statement notes.
