Sport and youth affairs minister’s son arrested
David Vardanian, the son of Armenian Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Yuri Vardanian, was arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling.
Aysor.am was informed by the press service of Armenian police that a criminal case was opened under the RA Criminal Code’s Article 268 part 3 (illegal turnover of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in large amounts without the intent to sell) and Article 215 part 2 (smuggling of narcotic drugs, psychotropic, addictive, poisonous substances, radioactive or explosive materials).
The criminal case was sent to the Department of Cases of Particular Importance of the Main Investigative Department of the Armenian police.
“The events held on April 24 on the Armenian Genocide centennial served the main purposes set: raising the international awareness of the Armenian Genocide, formation of public opinion and mobilization to condemn and fight against genocides as crimes against humanity,” the letter highlights.
At least 32 political activists and aid volunteers were killed in a municipal culture center in Şanlıurfa’s district of Suruç on July 20, right before they were due to cross the border to help with rebuilding the Syrian Kurdish town of Kobane.
Şeyh Abdurrahman Alagöz, a 20-year-old university student registered in Adıyaman province, has been identified as the suicide bomber who carried out the deadly July 20 attack at a municipal culture center in Şanlıurfa’s Suruç district, which killed at least 32 activists planning to cross the border to help rebuild the Syrian Kurdish town of Kobane.
