Presidents of Armenia and Russia have phone conversation
President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation today, the Armenian president’s press service said.
Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin discussed a number of topical issues related to Armenian-Russian bilateral cooperation and the international and regional agendas. They addressed the implementation of work done since Armenia’s decision to join the Customs Union.
The presidents exchanged views about the crisis in Ukraine and the ways out of it. In this connection they touched upon the situation following the Crimea referendum, noting that it is yet another example of the exercise of peoples’ right to self-determination through a free expression of popular will. At the same time, the importance of commitment to norms and principles of international law, first of all the UN Charter, was stressed.
The two presidents discussed the Karabakh conflict settlement process and the steps taken in this direction. The Armenian president highly appreciated activities of Russia as a Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, underlining the importance of the Co-chairs’ joint efforts on a peaceful resolution of the conflict. Serzh Sargsyan reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to continue joint work with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs on the conflict settlement.
The phone conversation took place on the Armenian side’s initiative.
