Serzh Sargsyan participates in annual meeting of NAS
The National Academy of Sciences of Armenia (NAS) held an annual meeting, during which NAS President, Academician Radik Martiroisian presented the results of scientific activities in 2013.
The meeting participants included Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Primate of Ararat Diocese Archbishop Navasard Kchoyan, ministers, parliamentary deputies, foreign members of NAS, and university rectors.
According to Radik Martirosian, purposeful work was done in all the institutes.
“The year was especially important to us as we celebrated the 70th anniversary of the NAS. A state commission chaired by President Sargsyan was set up to hold the jubilee events.
The president once again highlighted the role of NAS in Armenia’s educational system by personally participating in the jubilee events and conferring high state awards on several scholars,” Radik Martirosian said.
In his words, scientific developments continued at all the structures of the system in the reporting year, with the tradition of producing high-quality scientific results being maintained, which is evidenced by works published abroad, including 773 articles in influential foreign magazines, 19 monographs, etc.
In his speech, NAS president stressed the importance of international scientific cooperation. The institutes of NAS cooperate with foreign scholars, academicians from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and other CIS countries. 54 scientific workers of Armenian NAS were sent on academic trips abroad last year, 895 scholars visited Armenia from various foreign countries.
As of January 1, 2014 NAS of Armenia had 55 academicians and 58 corresponding members. 4,077 people work in the NAS system, 2,515 of whom are scientific workers.
