Armenian president receives delegation of US congressmen
Armenian Predsident Serzh Sargsyan received today a delegation of U.S. Congressmen led by Ed Royce, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives. The delegation is composed of Congressmen Eliot Lance Engel, Dacid Cicilinne, and Lois Frankel, the presidential press service reported.
Serzh Sargsyan considered as symbolic the Congressmen’s visit to Armenia on the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. In his words, it shows that the Armenian people are not alone in this national tragedy.
The president expressed his gratitude to Armenia’s friends in the U.S. Congress. He thanked the United States for assistance in economic development, reforms, and the establishment of stability in the region. S. Sargsyan assured the Congressmen that Armenia intends to develop and deepen relations with the U.S. in the future too.
Ed Royce said for his part that their delegation is composed of members of both the Republican and Democratic Parties, and all of them consider it important to be in Armenia today. According to him, if the history is represented incorrectly in history textbooks, the developments may come under threat. In his words, for this reason the subject of the Armenian Genocide is included in the curriculum of U.S. schools.
At the meeting, the interlocutors also addressed regional problems and the priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy.
