Investigative Committee chairman receives US ambassador to Armenia
Chairman of Armenia’s Investigative Committee Aghvan Hovsepyan received today U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern and U.S. embassy’s resident legal advisor in Armenia Jon Lulejian, according to the press service of the Investigative Committee.
The ambassador congratulated Hovsepyan on his appointment, pointing out the importance of the formation of a single independent body, particularly in the context of ensuring the independence of the legal system.
At the ambassador’s request, the Investigative Committee chairman presented his vision regarding the establishment and work principles of the investigative body. He spoke about the legislative decisions aimed at ensuring investigators’ independence and improving their professional skills as well as the measures for provision of material and technical resources.
The sides also discussed cooperation issues. A Hovsepyan thanked the U.S. ambassador and the resident legal advisor for efficient cooperation, particularly for assistance with discussions of the legislative package on the Committee’s creation. The interlocutors expressed confidence that the best traditions will continue.
The U.S. ambassador invited the Investigative Committee chairman to attend the international conference on drug trafficking challenges to be held in Yerevan in September.
Agreements were reached to work out new directions of cooperation and expand interaction in the fight against transnational crime.
