Serzh Sargsyan receives Canada minister of employment & social development
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received today Canadian Minister of Employment, Social Development and Multiculturalism, member of the Canadian House of Commons Jason Kenney, the presidential press service said.
Welcoming the guest, S. Sargsyan said that Mr. Kenney who is noted for his attention to and active work in supprt of issues of importance to Armenia and the Armenians is a welcome visitor to Armenia. Noting that Minister Kenney has made his contribution to the strengthening of Armenian-Canadian friendship, the president thanked the high-ranking guest and assured him that Armenia is interested in deepening and strengthening of its relations with Canada in both the bilateral and multilateral formats
The interlocutors highly appreciated the current level of Armenian-Canadian interstate relations which they said are based on similarities of the two peoples’ Christian system of values.
Jason Kenney said he has realized his wish to visit Armenia which is a good opportunity to become acquainted not only with theRepublic of Armenia, but also with Armenia that has a centuries-old history and the rich cultural and spiritual values of the Armenian people. He stressed that the visit bears evidence of the willingness to strengthen bilateral relations, develop cooperation in spheres of mutual interest, and boost trade and economic links.
During the meeting, President Sargsyan expressed his gratitude to the Canadian authorities for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. He underlined Jason Kenney’s personal contribution to it. He also thanked Canada for a warm attitude to the Armenian community of the country.
The sides discussed regional problems, the current international developments, Armenia’s foreign policy and its position on a number of issues.
