James Warlick: The ceasefire needs to be respected
“We are seriously concerned about the recent upsurge in violence along the Line of Contact. The ceasefire needs to be respected,” the U.S. Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group James Warlick wrote on Twitter.
The press service of Defense Army of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic reported earlier that on July 31 Azerbaijani troops launched an attack at a frontline position of a military unit located in the northern direction of the Line of Contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani troops met with organized resistance of NKR Defense Army’s frontline units that showed a high level of preparedness. The enemy was thrown back to its previous position and suffered considerable losses. Two servicemen of the NKR Defense Army - Ararat Khanoyan and Ashot Asoyan were killed in the fighting.
The area is now under control of the NKR Defense Army. A large quantity of arms was seized from the enemy as a result of the actions taken.
