Petrosyan: IS militants not to carry out threats in North Caucasus
Islamic State (IS) militants will not carry out their threats to provoke a war in the North Caucasus now - these threats pursue a different goal, Orientalist Armen Petrsoyan told journalists in Yerevan today.
In his words, the North Caucasus is Russia’s region most densely populated by Muslims. “Among IS organization’s members are many people from that region. This means considerable potential and they may take serious actions if they set a concrete goal. There is a tendency to carry out such actions, but the capacities are still absent. A terrorist act is the most dangerous thing the organization can do now against Russia and other external forces,” he said.
The main purpose of making such a statement is to create a theme that will always attract attention both in the mass media and on the diplomatic arena.
“This is the reason for their loud threats and cruel actions. There are no journalists in the IS-controlled territory and we have no clear idea about reality, even though the entire world knows about the atrocities they committed. The aim of those actions is to remain a center of the world’s attention,” the Orientalist stressed.
