Small and medium traders stage another protest
Small and medium-sized traders are staging yet another protest today outside the Armenian government. Law enforcers and a representative of Armenia’s Human Rights Defender are also in front of the government building.
Protesters demand a meeting with representatives of the Armenian government as well as suspension of the Law on Turnover Tax that took effect on October 1.
They told the correspondent of Aysor.am that they will go on strike if their demands are not met.
The protest participants suggested that Armenian ombudsman’s representative convey their viewpoint to the government, in particular, to keep 3.5% turnover tax in force without invoices, as previously. Under the new Law on Turnover Tax, 1% tax is imposed based on invoices, which is unacceptable to traders.
As was reported earlier, representatives of SMEs demand cancellation of the amendments to tax laws. In particular, they are boycotting the amendments to the Law on Turnover Tax that took effect on October 1. Under the new law, turnover tax for traders will be reduced from 3.5% to 1%, but a circulation of documents is made mandatory.
