Zohrabyan: Armenia knows what international community’s inaction is
The PACE urgently debated the report “Threats Posed by the ‘Islamic State’ (IS) and Violence against Humanity”.
The member of the Armenian delegation to the PACE, secretary of Prosperous Armenia (BHK) faction of the Armenian parliament Ms. Naira Zohrabyan discussed in her speech the genocide committed by the Islamic State terrorist organization against Yazidis. She urged the international community to stop the new genocide in the 21st century.
Naira Zohrabyan’s said in particular:
“What is going on in Northern Iraq is undoubtedly genocide. It is hard to imagine such barbarities happening in the 21st century, even in most dreadful dreams. The Islamic State radical terrorist organization is committing real genocide in Northern Iraq: homes of Kurds and Yazidis are being leveled to the ground, all Yazidis who refuse to change their religion are being massacred or shot.
Thousands of Yazidi refugees are dying of starvation and water shortage. And this horror is taking place today, before the eyes of civilized humanity. Only monsters can bury innocent children alive! Only monsters can publicly behead a reporter performing his professional duty!
On September 21, Armenia’s Independence Day, Islamic State radicals mined and blew up the Holy Martyrs Armenian Church in Deir ez-Zor, a church dedicated to the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims. To me as an Armenian woman, it is doubly painful to speak about this because 100 years ago, 1.5 million Armenians were deported and subjected to genocide in the Ottoman Empire. 100 years ago, Ottoman monsters buried children and pregnant women alive in the same way, they killed, destroyed and looted.
We should not allow history to repeat itself. For this purpose, definite steps should be taken in addition to condemnatory statements so as to punish Islamic terrorists and the countries which support them and continue delivering arms to extremists and funding them. Everything should be done to stop that genocide and help the starving refugees. 100 years ago, genocide was committed against the Armenian people and I know perfectly well what the silence and inaction of the international community is”.
