Zurabyan: On October 24 all to realize what respect for human rights is
The report of Armenian Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan does not address the subject of killings during the March 1, 2008 events, the head of Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction Levon Zurabyan said in the Armenian parliament today.
“The Armenian authorities brought a charge in the March 1 case, but these killings were not solved. Why didn’t you address that subject in the report? Why don’t you speak about political prisoners? The UN report has five criteria defining the notion of political prisoner. Mr Andreasyan, say openly that there is no freedom of speech. Public television is being controlled by the Armenian president,” Zurabyan said.
In his opinion, human rights are violated in Armenia until people take the protection of their rights into their own hands. He noted that it is a temporary phenomenon.
“On October 10 the people declared they will not allow violating their rights. At the October 24 rally, they will protect their rights so much that everyone will realize what freedom, democracy, and respect for human rights are,” L. Zurabyan said.
