Zaruhi Postanjyan appeals to Russian president over Gyumri tragedy
Deputy of the Armenian parliament Zaruhi Postanjyan appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chayka in connection with the tragedy in the city of Gyumri.
“In the existing situation, in order to avoid a confrontation of interstate relations, the citizens of the Republic of Armenia and the Armenians across the world expect your sensible decision concerning the restoration of justice and an immediate handover of Valery Permyakov accused of a gravest crime to Armenian authorities,” the statement of Z. Postanjyan says in particular.
Six members of the Avetisyan family, including a two-year-old girl, were killed in Armenia’s northwestern city of Gyumri on January 12. The only survivor, six-month-old Seryozha Avetisyan, was hospitalized in critical condition with stab wounds. He died on January 19, despite all efforts to save him. Russian serviceman Valery Permyakov is suspected of the crime.
On the night of January 13, the main suspect - conscript of the Russian 102nd military base Valery Permyakov was detained by Russian border guards during an attempt to cross the Armenian-Turkish border. He was questioned and confessed to the crime. He is being held in custody. Permyakov is charged with murder of two or more people and desertion while carrying a service weapon.
