Nalbandyan: Turkey had opportunity to ratify protocols in last 5-6 years
At a meeting with reporters today, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan addressed the recent statement of Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in connection with the anniversary of the assassination of Agos weekly’s editor Hrant Dink.
Ahmet Davuoglu’s statement had two messages – one was related to Hrant Dink, and the other was about the need to normalize the Armenian-Turkish relations.
“In the last 5-6 years the Turkish authorities have had a good chance to take a historic opportunity and ratify the Armenian-Turkish protocols, realize the process of peoples’ rapprochement. Unfortunately, failing to get rid of the internal taboo, they have not missed a chance to deny the Armenian Genocide and make unfriendly statements and actions for Armenia and the Armenians, to put it mildly,” Edward Nalbandyan said.
According to him, a question arises: Why did Ahmet Davutoglu and other high-ranking Turkish officials wait until 2015 so as to issue a statement on Hrant Dink’s assassination and how can one explain the fact that over eight years the Turkish authorities failed to find those guilty of Dunk’s murder?
“There is nothing new in that statement and an answer to it has already been given,” E. Nalbandyan said.
