Armenian president, Iranian FM discuss cooperation prospects
President Serzh Sargsyan received today Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, according to the presidential press service.
The president of Armenia underlined the importance of mutual visits at the high level, noting that such visits create a good opportunity to discuss the agenda of Armenian-Iranian relations and the prospects for developing cooperation.
Serzh Sargsyan warmly recalled his visit to Iran in 2013, the meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, and the agreements reached at that time. He stressed that Armenia expresses its willingness to implement these agreements and is interested in constantly developing and consistently deepening its relations with Iran.
The Iranian foreign minister said the relationship of the two countries can serve as a good example for the world since it shows that a Muslim state and a Christian one can peacefully coexist.
He said that Iran is interested in developing its relations with a friendly and reliable partner – Armenia in all the fields.
During the meeting the interlocutors attached importance to economic cooperation issues, in particular to consistent work on implementing the planned programs, which, according to the sides, will considerably contribute to an increase in commodity turnover between the two countries and help establish as close ties as possible in other spheres.
The Armenian president and the Iranian foreign minister discussed urgent regional and international problems and challenges. They said that mutual support is crucial in confronting the challenges and achieving a lasting peace and stability.
