V. Sargsyan: Pan-Armenian Declaration is response to false assumptions
The Pan-Armenian Declaration on the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide is crucial because it is the first document of the State Commission on Coordination of the Events for the Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Head of the Staff of the President of Armenia, Coordinator of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide Vigen Sargsyan said today.
“It is the first document that was adopted not by state bodies of Armenia or a Diaspora organization, by the State Commission that comprises all the regional structures of the Diaspora,” he said.
According to V. Sargsyan, it is a response to all those who claim that Armenians in Armenia and Armenians in the Diaspora have different goals and desires.
“It is the spirit of the unity of our people on the threshold of the 100th anniversary of the Genocide,” he said.
Speaking about clause 6 of the Pan-Armenian Declaration concerning the legal demands of the Armenian people, Vigen Sargsyan said: “We have not yet set a fixed schedule about when the final package will be ready because that package development means very serious work. When we speak about a comprehensive package, it means the main approaches to the legal demands regarding elimination of the consequences of the Armenian Genocide. We believe that at the current stage it is enough to show in what direction the State Commission is moving from the viewpoint of legal demands”.
As regards the possible scenario of presenting the legal demands at international instances, Vigen Sargsyan noted: “As an international law expert, I would not responsibility to speak on behalf of the State Commission but in this case the legal ways of making demands should not be perceived only in the context of legal disputes”.
