R. Hovannisian: We ready to join common struggle, but not participate in games
“The Armenian people want freedom, they demand an opportunity to live and work in their homeland. They don’t need political games,” the leader of Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian said in Liberty Square of Yerevan today.
In his words, a joint rally was scheduled to take place in Liberty Square today, but unlike other political forces, only Heritage is standing beside the people there.
“We are here again, and we are making the same demand. Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan should resign. He should do it for the homeland and his grandchildren. We did not invite anyone today, we did not transport people to the square, and you should know that there is no victory without the people. Neither I nor others can win without the people,” R. Hovannisian declared.
Touching upon the reconciliation of Prosperous Armenia Party’s (BHK) leader Gagik Tsarukyan and President Serzh Sargsyan, Raffi Hovannisian said: “This reconciliation is outside legal jurisdiction and legitimacy. All political forces – Armenian National Congress (HAK), BHK, and why not, ARF-Dashnaktsutyun should have been present in the square today, but only we are here. No one wants this game anymore,” he noted.
According to him, only two days ago a decision was finally taken through consensus, the leaders of the troika of political parties shook each other’s hands, forgave mistakes and set up a common agenda, but that agenda was ruined again.
“We agreed to gather today, but someone did not want to. I am not furious, but I feel disappointed. Unfortunately, our partners decided to withdraw from the race,” Hovannisian noted.
He informed those present that tomorrow representatives of Heritage Party will travel to Gyumri and then to border regions, and they intend to again gather in Liberty Square on February 27.
When asked if Heritage will participate in HAK-initiated rally on March 1, R. Hovannisian replied: “We should all be together on that day. All Heritage members who will be in Yerevan on March 1 will attend the rally. We need to go to Chinar”.
“I repeat again that we are prepared to join those who want to wage a common struggle, but we have no intention of participating in games,” Raffi Hovannisian said.
