Silent protest commemorating Armenian Genocide held in Montevideo
On the initiative of Armenian youth organizations of the Uruguayan capital a silent protest was organized in the Armenian Genocide square in Montevideo.
Young people participating in the demonstration tied their mouths with red ribbons, thus honoring the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims and raising people’s awareness about what happened 100 years ago. Another group of participants handed out flyers about the Armenian Genocide to passers-by, as well as to tourists who expressed interest in the issue.
Participant carried a number of posters with inscriptions such as “We condole to all the victims worldwide,” “No to violations of human rights,” “Armenian Genocide: never again,” a source from Montevideo told ArmenianGenocode100.org.
Uruguayan-Armenian youth’s initiative was featured by local media outlets, and such projects are set to be organized throughout 2015.
