Yerevan mayor receives ex-mayor of Glendale
Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan received on Tuesday ex-mayor of Glendale Eileen Givens.
Mr Margaryan thanked Ms Givens for visiting Yerevan and for her intention to pay tribute to Armenian Genocide victims together with the Armenians, on April 24.
“This is a special year for Armenians throughout the world as it is the year marking the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. We are sincerely grateful to for all those who are side by side with us, paying tribute to the memory of 1.5 million innocent victims,” Mr Margaryan said.
He thanked the Gelndale City Council for its permanent aid and attention to the local Armenian community.
Ms Eileen Givens thanked Mayor Margaryan and stressed the Armenian community’s special role in Glendale’s development.
Armenians constitute 80% of Glendale’s 800,000-strong population and play an important role in the city’s development. The Armenian community is organizing numerous events marking the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
The Glendale City Council approved a declaration on a month of remembrance for Armenian Genocide victims in April 15.
Ms Givens presented the declaration to Mayor Taron Margaryan.
