Ukraine city condemns Armenian Genocide
In the run-up to the Armenian Genocide centennial, the municipal authorities of the Ukrainian city of Mariupol have condemned the big atrocity.
A unanimous decision was made after the council heard an address by the Armenian community of the Azov region. The request was delivered by Nikolay Tokarsky, a council member who said that Ukraine has so far failed to undertake appropriate legislative efforts to condemn the crime recognized by over 20 countries of teh world.
The floor was later opened to Ruben Makaryan, an Armenian community representative, who shared the history of Genocide. Describing Ukraine as the second big homeland fpr the Armenians, he asked the legislators to endorse the corresponding bill’s submission to Ukraine’s chief lawmaking body, Rada, by the president.
The council met the proposal half-way, asking the parliament to offer legislative-level support to the Armenians' request.
