Nairit employees demand unpaid salaries
As celebrations dedicated to the International Workers’ Day continued, hundreds of former and current employees of the rubber plant Nairit conducted a rally in central Yerevan repeating their anger over unpaid wages.
The crowd gathered outside the Opera and Ballet Theatre Friday afternoon, waiting for President Serzh Sargsyan, who was expected to attend a festive concert.
The crowd chanted slogans, calling for rights’ protection until reports emerged that the president was already inside the Opera House. The protesters later headed to the Government where they ended the rally.
The crowd will meet for a new weekly protest outside the Presidential Palace Tuesday morning, Anush Harutyunyan, a spokesperson for the plant, said later.
