Three-days of mourning in Abkhazia
Three-days of mourning to be declared in Abkhazia in connection with the death of Sergei Bagapsh, who died from complications following lung surgery in a Moscow hospital on May 29. The mourning will last from 31 May until June 2, the officials say.
Abkhazia officials say Vice President Alexander Ankvab will be acting president until elections for a new president are held in three months.
The entertainment programs will be postponed. Bagapsh’s funerals are to be held on June 2 in Jgerda village.
Bagapsh was hospitalized to treat emphysema in his right lung and a week ago received a surgical intervention characterized by doctors as successful. Later the Abkhazian president developed pneumothorax and his lungs failed, leaving him into coma. He died Sunday overnight, the sources inform.
