Lebedev: Incumbent president legitimately confirmed his powers
“We assess both the presidential election and the work done in preparation for it as satisfactory”, Head of the CIS observation mission Sergei Lebedev said today, when summarizing the results of the February 18 election.
He pointed out the absence of tension that prevailed during the previous presidential election. “There were no black PR, disrespectful attitude, and intolerance,” he stressed.
Speaking about the attempted murder committed against candidate Paruyr Hayrikian, the mission head noted that the incident caused panic but did not have serious consequences.
He touched upon the hunger of another candidate, Andrias Ghukasian, saying that the observers were concerned about his hunger strike and they all were glad to hear that it did not result in any serious health problems.
As for electoral violations, Lebedev said that most violations were related to voter lists and were eliminated rapidly. In his words, the violations were not serious and did not affect the electoral process.
Summing up the election results, the head of the CIS mission said: “No doubt, the presidential election was legitimate and the incumbent President confirmed his powers legitimately. The election was in line with the Constitution and international standards,” Lebedev said.
