Catholicos Karekin II hosts U.S. Ambassador, discusses domestic political issues
His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians met today with U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills who is ending his diplomatic mission in Armenia.
Hosting the diplomat in the Holy See, the Catholicos highlighted the assistance of the USA to Armenia, and stressed the efforts of the U.S. Ambassador addressed to strengthening and development of Armenian-American relations.
The Ambassador, in his turn, stressed that he was happy to serve in Armenia and leaves the country with big hopes for its the future. Mills stated that during the years of his tenure he got familiarized with the Armenian people and the important role of the Armenian Church in their lives.
During the meeting the parties also referred to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. The Catholicos emphasized the unpleasant incidents taking place on the border, which often result in interruption of lives of young people. He expressed hope that with the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and international community the conflict will be settled and the people of Artsakh will enjoy free and independent life.
The Catholicos also referred to the challenges the country is facing, spoke about domestic political situation, stressing that all the issues in the countries should be solved only through dialogue and negotiations.
During the meeting the parties also referred to the “Armenia!” exhibition conducted in Metropolitan Museum of New York and highlighted the carried out work.
