Armenia's municipal elections' outcome predictable, hints outcome of snap parliamentary elections: political analyst
On Sunday municipal elections took place in a number of communities with mainly Civic Contract party candidates registered victories.
Political technologist Vigen Hakobyan said these results were mostly predictable as in today’s political situation this force continues enjoying the trust of the people.
“The elections passed without serious violations and if to compare with the Republican party’s ruling period it appears to be similar regarding the victory of ruling party. But the fact is that this time no violations, no election bribes no usage of administrative resources have been registered,” Hakobyan said.
He said the outcome of the elections in Kapan, where non-party candidate has won, was also predictable.
As to elections in Hrazdan, he said though the Civic Contract party has not won but it is just formal. “It is clear that the party has backed Sasun Mikayelyan’s son as party representatives were working in his headquarters,” Hakobyan stressed, adding that this elections showed also different degrees of euphoria in Armenia which is not so unequivocal in all the regions.
As whether the municipal elections may show what the results of the snap parliamentary elections will be, Hakobyan said, “I do not think that public moods will sharply change in a month. It is noticeable that the authorities have changed their strategy and stepped back from the policy of dividing into blacks and whites. They state that it is necessary to destroy barricades. These elections somehow show the public moods. Nevertheless, the major part of the active mass intends to give its vote of confidence to the current authorities.”
