Collapse of wall of historic-cultural building on Aram 23 street symbolic: Yerevan chief architect
Wall of a building on Aram 23 street in Yerevan collapsed yesterday in the evening. The building is declared Armenian historic-cultural monument. The information about the collapsed wall was placed in Facebook by Armenia’s small singers’ band headed by Tigran Hekekyan.
Yerevan chief architect Artur Meschyan said that the collapse of the wall of the building is symbolic as it was a result of “unorganized and illogical hassle.” The chief architect said that the issue of strengthening the wall adjacent to the construction site was discussed for over three months, plans have been submitted but were not confirmed by the Ministry of Culture.
“Luckily we have escaped victims, the wall may be restored and the cultural value to the building will be returned. This should be a lesson for others. The construction works must be organized in a way not to repeat such situation… This wall could have been easily strengthened and its collapse would have been avoided,” Meschyan said, voicing hope that the Ministry of Culture will work out a plan with the Old Yerevan architect to ensure the existence of the existing monuments.
