My backpack prepared for going home after revolution still on my shoulders: Pashinyan
At the discussion of his “The Opposite Side of the Country” book, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan referred to the part where he says that the real revolutionary never becomes an authority.
“In April 2018 when it was already clear that Serzh Sargsyan resigned and when slogan “Nikol, the Prime Minister” was being circulated, of course this was always on my mind. What was I thinking about? I was thinking about such formula of revolution which was written and what I was supposed to do in such situation. Of course, in that phase I was already thinking that the first phase was over and I must take my backpack and go home, saying that the mission of the revolutionary was over. But when it became clear to me what would happen next, like for instance Karen Karapetyan would become PM, or, I do not know, any other, and I would not manage to convince and prove that this revolution was not an intrigue inside the power, and I thought that the people would feel ‘used’ for some purposes. Till now this backpack is on my shoulders, the one I was supposed to go home with and the only reason why this scenario did not work was my understanding that the people would be much more disappointed and even angered.. I mean for them there would be much more “tuned sold” opposition figure who was just a tool for intrigues inside the power, who did his work and went home. This is the answer to the question and of course I thought very much about it and until being sure that it was 100% truth I did not give my consent to become prime ministerial candidate.”
