Metro development project enters into practical phase: Yerevan Municipality
The last 10th metro station – Charbakh – opened in 1996. After it for a long time it was spoken about operation of another station in Ajapnyak. The project though remained on the paper for decades. The current municipal authorities have initiated today the launch of a new complex program which has already entered a practical phase.
“This will be a 100% business program and with it we must be able to build a bridge and a new station,” Yerevan chief architect Artur Meschyan said.
“Our goal is to create new values in the city and new infrastructures without increasing state debt and overloading the budget. The construction of the new metro station will lunch from metro and end with business model. This is the principle of the project we discuss with the investments,” deputy mayor Hayk Sargsyan said.
The business project has two elements – construction of metro station with a trade center near it and upgrading of housing fund.
“Currently we are viewing a variant with the municipality to build Ajapnyak station without state investments,” businessman Arsen Iskandaryan said.
“We have reached the phase when we can already select the volume of the investment program, its quality, efficiency and timeframe,” Hayk Sargsyan said.
The Yerevan chief architect has two concepts on his table.
The metro will reach the new station through 525-meter-long tunnel which was built still during the Soviet years and remained incomplete. Now the tunnel will be completely upgraded.
