No political motive behind my resignation, just disinformation: Konstantin Orbelyan on his dismissal
No political motives stand behind the developments over me, art director of Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre Konstantin Orbelyan said at a news conference today, adding that it is just the matter of wrong information provided to acting minister of culture Nazeni Gharibyan.
“I see no politics here, Nazeni Gharibyan has been misinformed. It is no politics, I am not a politician, I am not interested in politics. The important thing for me is the prosperity of Opera and Ballet Theatre,” Orbelyan said, adding that with unknown reason acting culture minister decided that his appointment was illegal.
“While I say it is not my issue, I have been appointed with the decision of the government, so your issue is with government. Sue the government and clarify whether the decision was legal or not. I have not asked to appoint me in this position. It was not the goal of my life,” Orbelyan said, adding that if his appointment was really illegal he would have been relieved of duties ten months ago.
“They are waiting for me to leave on my own, but I will not do it. How will I explain it to the staff, I cannot leave my theatre. They should either relieve me or leave me,” he said, adding that the story of his dismissal was an unprecedented PR action for the theatre.
“The whole world learnt that we have Opera Theatre in Yerevan, that there is Orbelyan there and brilliant performers,” Orbelyan said, adding that many are asking him, what he is doing, when he will be doing.
