Armenian humanitarian mission demines 34,693 sq. m. territory in Syria
Humanitarian Sapper and Expertise Center’s group has separated 5 affirmed dangerous territories in Syria, center’s director Ruben Arakelyan told the reporters today.
“In general, the first group has demined 34,693 sq. m. territory, discovered 29 mines and remains of explosive devices used during the war and eliminated by the Syrian governmental forces. We are not involved in blasting activities,” he said.
He said the Armenian mission also provides medical assistance, it involves 8 doctors.
“About a thousand therapeutic interferences, 400 surgeries have been carried out and over 1,300 laboratory medical assistance provided,” he said.
The center’s director said that the work of the first group is being assessed satisfactory as the works were moving slowly due to some technical issues which though were solved.
“The second group works in much more favorable conditions,” he stressed.
Speaking about the specialists who received injury during the mission, Arakelyan said that his health condition is assessed satisfactory.
“If not to consider the amputation, he has no other health issues. He is in Yerevan, will wear a special prosthesis in one-two months,” he said.
