Armenia’s second president congratulates on Independence Day, warns against destruction of institutional grounds with “revolutionary” fever
Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan addressed a congratulatory message on the Independence Day.
The second president said an extremely high cost was paid for independence and it must be cherished.
“It is impossible to preserve the Independence without powerful statehood. I had an honor to be the head of our state for ten years and I am grateful to the fate for the opportunity to serve my country. During those years a lot was done to reinforce the security, develop the economy and build statehood. We did all the possible for the people to perceive statehood as the inseparable part of perception of our national identity. But today the country built with the blood and sweat is facing the danger of being destroyed,” the second president wrote in the message, claiming that the institutional grounds of the state are being ruined with “revolutionary” fever, the national values are being eliminated, intolerance and mutual hatred are being sowed.
“I want to believe that our country will find strength to confront the raising danger, that the people will overcome with dignity this trial as well becoming stronger and wiser, gaining the experience of differentiating between the black and the white, the lie and the truth, and shameless populism and responsible policy,” he said.
