Arsen Babayan says decisions to arrest and then free him are political, aimed to influence on CC president Hrayr Tovmasyan
Former deputy head of NA’s staff Arsen Babayan who was released from custody today said in an interview to Armnews' Orakhndir program that despite considering his arrest unlawful the court applied illegal custody against him.
“The wrongdoing I am ascribed does not exist. There is no such wrongdoing – usurpation of power. It is obvious that the president of the Constitutional Court cannot carry out the authorities of the CC on his own. While I am being accused of assisting in usurpation of CC authorities. From the very beginning the 314 Article of the Criminal Code could not have been applied for this deed as we have an amnesty law, but the supervising body did not care about it at all,” Arsen Babayan said.
He said there were no facts or proofs against him to create fundamental suspicion over apparent crime.
Babayan said the criminal case contained materials which the investigative body did not submitted to the court.
Asked whether he considers the decision to free him a political one, Babayan said, “I am more than sure that the decision to arrest me was political one and the decision to release me too.”
Arsen Babayan thanked Artsakh ombudsman Artak Beglaryan, chairman of the Helsinki Committee Avetik Ishkhanyan and My Step faction lawmaker Sisak Gabrielyan.
“All this is addressed against the chairman of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan, they sought and tried to find something to influence on Hrayr Tovmasyan,” Arsen Babayan said.
