Impossible to predict future fantastic legal interpretations or mayhem: Arsen Babayan about the future developments in his case
The ban on visiting Arsen Babayan in custody was lifted after the SIS chief had been asked why Babayan’s underage children were not allowed to see him, former deputy head of the NA staff Arsen Babayan said in an interview to Armnews today.
“On the same day, or the next one, I received corresponding decision that the ban to visit me was lifted,” he said, stressing that only the ban on visits was lifted while the ban on calls remained till the end.
“It was obvious that I would not like my small children visit me in the penitentiary and the phone call would have been more desirable. I would have called my daughter and tell her that I would come and bring you presents from Artsakh,” Babayan said.
He noted that there were no proofs against him submitted to the court.
“There were just claims like he will impede, he will flee, while the court was at least to present one basic fact to give fundamental suspicion that the person will either flee or impede,” he said.
Babayan noted that the criminal case instituted against him contains absurd elements.
“I was telling about legal mayhem and it took place with me and this can happen with anyone,” Babayan added.
He also stressed that if not the criticism of the Venice Commission, if not the wide public criticism he would have probably remained in the jail.
Babayan noted that he demands from the ruling force to ensure legal, lawful procedures for all.
Babayan also voiced special gratitude to Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan who he said personally visited him and applied to the prosecutor general to review the preventive measure.
Speaking about the further pace of this process, Babayan said that this criminal case should not have existed at all.
“But as far as it does, and I was illegally deprived of freedom for 22 days, it is impossible to predict what fantastic legal interpretations or mayhem may occur,” Babayan said.
