Turkish figures support Armenian-Turkish dialog
Members of Turkey’s Greens and the Left Party of the Future are on a visit to Armenia. The party member, writer and publicist Adnan Genc told reporters today that Turkish political figures have begun to voice the Armenian Genocide issue.
“It is a fact that a hundred years ago genocide was committed against the Armenian people, and a hundred years later Turkey again deported Armenians in Kessab. We recently visited Turkey’s only Armenian-populated village where we saw some of Kessab Armenians,” he noted.
Adnan Genc said that recognition of the Armenian Genocide and compensation remain on the agenda of Greens and the Left Party of the Future.
In his words, they will visit Yerevan’s Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, adding that they don’t care how this fact will be perceived in Turkey.
Another participant of the press conference, Turkish political and public figure, former MP Ufuk Uras said they support an Armenian-Turkish dialog. According to Uras, the mentality in Turkey has changed after the assassination of ‘Agos’ newspaper’s editor Hrant Dink and ‘I apologize’ campaign.
Armenian parliamentary deputy Aragats Akhoyan said for his part that the Turkish figures have come to start dialog between civil societies and hold frank discussions.
