President: Argentine investments in Armenian economy made $400m
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, who is on an official visit to Argentina, has met with Vice President of Argentina, President of the Senate Amado Boudou, the press service of the Armenian president said.
Given the fact that due to health problems Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez Kirchner cancelled her participation in all the official events, including the celebrations on Independence Day marked on July 9, the talks were conducted with a high-ranking Argentine delegation led by Vice President of Argentina, President of the Senate Amado Boudou. Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers Jorge Capitanich, President of the Chamber of Deputies Julian Dominguez, Social Development Minister Alicia Kirchner, Minister of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation Lino Baranao, and Chief of the Federal Administration of Public Revenue Ricardo Echegaray participated in the negotiations.
The Armenian president said that it is the third official visit paid by an Armenian president to Argentina, which shows that the Armenian presidents have always attached importance to the development of relations with Argentina, considering it their duty to visit the friendly country. Serzh Sargsyan expressed his gratitude for the warm attitude to the Armenians and the Armenian community of Argentina in particular.
“My official visit to Argentina takes place on the eve of Independence Day of your country and I cordially congratulate the Argentinian authorities and people on this occasion. We attach great importance to Armenia’s relations with Argentina and I am glad that high-ranking visits are often paid and our relations are developing in the multilateral format as well. We are ready to deepen Armenian-Argentinian relations in the political, economic, cultural and other spheres. I am glad that the documents to be signed today will give us this opportunity,” the Armenian president said.
According to him, Argentina is one of the largest investors in the Armenian economy. In his words, investments of about $400 million gradually affect the trade and economic relations between the two countries.
S. Sargsyan thanked the authorities and people of Argentina for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Following the negotiations, the sides signed an agreement between the governments on economic cooperation, a memorandum of understanding between the science ministries in the field of scientific and innovation studies, and an agreement on the exchange of tax information between the governments.
Serzh Sargsyan also met with Argentinian Foreign Minister Hector Timerman. The sides discussed a wide range of issues related to Armenian-Argentinian relations in the bilateral and multilateral formats.
On the same day President Sargsyan met with famous Argentinian businessman of Armenian descent Eduardo Eurnekian.
