Armenia is interested in the further development of the format of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), the vice speaker of the Armenian parliament Edward Sharmazanov said in his speech at the opening of the 43rd Parliamentary Assembly of the BSEC Commission on Culture, Education and Social Affairs, according to the press service of the Armenian parliament.
E. Sharmazanov said in particular: “Armenia’s National Assembly attaches importance to the strengthening of cooperation within the framework of the Parliamentary Assembly of the BSEC which is now one of the main organizations working to promote cooperation in Black Sea territory”.
In his words, the PA participating countries have a lot of shared values and goals such as the establishment of peace, stability, prosperity and friendly relations in Black Sea territory.
“Peaceful settlement of conflicts in this region is extremely important for peace and prosperity. The resolution of the Karabakh conflict is vital to Armenia,” Sharmazanov said.
The vice speaker stressed that Armenia is committed to a peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict and considers it important to create an atmosphere of trust to continue the negotiating process with the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group. According to him, the recognition and exercise of the Karabakh people’s right to self-determination should form a basis of the conflict’s settlement.
“We are interested in the further development of the BSEC format. It should serve its main purpose of establishing a stable and prosperous region. It is important that the Organization reacts to vital interests of the participating states. To Armenia, it is opening of the border with Turkey in the first place,” Sharmazanov said.
