L. Alaverdyan comments on police chief remark about ‘heated’ autumn
The artistry of Armenian Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan requires him to say “cold” when people say “hot”, the first Armenian Ombudswoman, head of Against Violation of Law NGO Larisa Alaverdyan said at a press conference today when journalists asked her to comment on the recent remark of the police chief concerning a “heated” political autumn.
We would remind you that Vladimir Gasparyan said at a briefing during the exercises of police troops at Arzni Airport that regardless of whether the political autumn in Armenia would be hot or cold, it has to be within legal boundaries. “I will give a humorous answer: there is a cold shower for a hot autumn, but when it does not help, we can organize a more heated autumn”.
According to Larisa Alaverdyan, the establishment of a civil society seldom takes place thanks to the authorities, while civil society in Armenia is becoming stronger day by day and making new achievements.
“The formation of civil society in Armenia began in 1989. The degree of civil society’s maturity is assessed by the level of its participation in the process of running the state. I am a supporter of “I’m Against” movement and they act quite skillfully,” L. Alaverdyan noted.
In her words, civil society cannot exist if freedom of expression - a necessary condition - is not ensured.
