The resolution adopted by the European People’s Party (EPP) is an event of historical importance to Armenia, Vice Speaker of the National Assembly Edward Sharmazanov said at the parliamentary session today when speaking about the resolution on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The resolution that recognizes and condemns the 1915 Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire was adopted by the EPP in Brussels today.
“It is an unprecedented, historical document that we have achieved by joint efforts,” E. Sharmazanov stated.
“The resolution enshrines the spirit of the Pan-Armenian Declaration on the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and clearly defines the terms of genocide and deprivation of homeland. It contains a call to Turkey, Europe and international structures to condemn the Armenian Genocide,” Sharmazanov said.
He stressed that the document was adopted thanks to the joint work done by Heritage Party, Orinats Yerkir Party, and the Republican Party of Armenia.
Sharmazanov added that it is not ruled out that the resolution may become a precedent for adoption of a resolution against the denial of the Armenian Genocide.
