Special Project. Survivors of Armenian Genocide. Chicho’s testimony about massacres in Ktrac Qar
Aysor.am is launching the third series of project “Armenian Genocide: Breaking the Silence.” Under the headline “Survivors” we will regularly present the testimonies of survivors of the 1915 Armenian massacres in the Ottoman Turkey.
Testimony of survivor Chico about massacres of Armenians of the village Ktrac Qar, Arjesh region, Van province.
“A week ago, after celebrating Great Easter they came and took 30 people to Akants, 2 of them came back: Arshak and Ghazar. Eso, Sqe, Vardan and others were killed. Villagers gathered in Osman and Murad Aghas’s houses. At daytime they forced us leave the houses and we returned home.
The troops came to the village and began killing people. The enemy filled the dead bodies of Araqel, Andranos teachers and the others in the river.
The Kurds offered us to adopt Islam. We stayed in the village until Russians and survived men returned. In two month of retreat we crossed Berkir and Igdir and now we live in Nerqin Kivzaltere. We have a house, a family of 4 members and one of us is missing. No information about the village and the villagers.”
Tatos’s wife Chicho from the village Ktrac Qar, Arjesh region.
The project was prepared with the assistance of the Information and Analytical Center of the Armenian Government Staff.
